“Nissa la Bella” in the local dialect describes Nice “the beautiful”. Superbly sited on the sweeping curve of the Baie des Anges and set against a dramatic backdrop of Alpine foothills. For much of the year Nice is bathed in luminous Mediterranean sunshine. The colourful and exotic flowers spill over and fill the air with their perfume. Nice was divided from the rest of France for over 500 years, during this time the Nicois people developed their own cultural identity. This can still be found today in their food, architecture and language.

Most people’s first impression of Nice is the famous “Promenade des Anglais”, one of the world’s most famous seaside boulevards. Running some 4km and fringed by swaying palms, the multi-lane highway is bright with floral borders and lined with fashionable beaches lapped by the azure waters of the Mediterranean. Behind the Promenade “Old Nice” has been the centre of the city for hundreds of years and is still very much a living city, not just a historic tourist attraction. The warren of streets in the old town contains many delights: restaurants, art galleries, fashion shops to name a few.
